Where to Search
Databases

Many of the library resources are found in databases. The CIU library subscribes to over 120 databases. A database is . . .

An organized collection of information that can be easily selected and sorted.

In a library – An electronic collection of magazine articles, journals, and newspaper articles, chapters of books, and more.

Within library databases, you can access articles from newspapers, magazines and academic journals, ebooks and chapters from books as well as reference materials.

Databases can be organized to contain:

a wide variety of information (a general database)

or information only on a particular subject (a subject specific database).

Catalog

The library catalog allows you to search for the print books, ebooks, media and other physical items in the library collection.

You can search the catalog using the search bar on the library homepage.

Or you can select the Catalog link. The library catalog can also be found at library.ciu.edu.

If you find a book that is not available in the CIU library, you can make an InterLibrary Loan request for it.

See Library Vs. Google for more on why it is better to use library resources.

See Finding and Using Articles for more information on journal/magazine articles.

See Searching Library Databases for advanced search techniques.
