Where to find NIV Exhaustive Concordance

Strongest NIV Exhaustive Concordance

Uses: G/K Numbering System
The back of the NIV Concordance has a chart to convert G/K numbers to Strong's numbers and vice versa.

Identify the original Greek/Hebrew word
  1. Look up the English translation of the word in the concordance.
  2. Find the verse where it is located. The letter/words in bold are the English translation.
  3. Identify the G/K # of the original word. 
    • If it is in regular type, it is a Hebrew word.
    • If it is in italics, it is a Greek word.
  4. Look up the G/K # in the dictionary in the back of the concordance.
    • If it is a Hebrew word, look in the Hebrew to English Dictionary and Index.
    • If it is a Greek word, look in the Greek to English Dictionary and Index.
  5. Copy everything from the dictionary: G/K #, Hebrew/Greek word, transliteration, and English translations.
Create a list of every occurrence of the word in the Bible
  1. Look up each English translation of the word in the front "concordance" section.
  2. List each verse that has the G/K # beside it.
Identify the original Greek word (New Testament) example
  1. Look up the English translation of the word in the concordance. 
    • "Lord", starting on page 683
  2. Find the verse where it is located. The letter/words in bold are the English translation.
    • 1 Cor 16:22 If anyone does not love the L on page 685 (notice that there are two different words for "Lord" in this verse)
  3. Identify the G/K # of the original word.
    • 3261 (Note the numbers used with other verses, such as 3448--that is a different Greek word.)
  4. Look up the G/K # in the dictionary in the back of the concordance.
    • 3261 is on page 1566, in the Greek to English Dictionary and Index
  5. Copy everything from the dictionary: G/K #, Greek word, transliteration, definition, and English translations.
    • 3261, kyrios, lord, master. This can be a title of property or slaves; or a NT translation of the Hebrew 151 "Lord" or 3378 "LORD," that is "Yahweh," the proper name of God in the OT
    • Lord (600), master (35), Lord's (32), sir (23), master's (6), masters (6), owner (6), lords (3), owners (3), belong to Lord (1), he (1), his majesty (1), masters' (1), owns (1), sirs (1)--the number in parenthesis is the number of occurences of that English translation--adding them together, kyrios is used 720 times
Create a list of every occurrence of the word in the Bible (Greek example)
  1. Look up each English translation of the word in the front "concordance" section.
    • "Lord's" is on page 686.
    • You would also look up "Lord," "master," "sir," "master's," "masters," "owner," "lords," "owners," "belong to Lord," "he," "his majesty," "masters'," "owns," "sirs."
  2. List each verse that has the G/K # beside it.
    • There are 32 verses with G/K # 3261: Lk 1:6, 1:38, 1:66, 2:26, 4:19, 10:38; Ac 7:31, 9:1, 11:21, 21:14; 1 Co 7:22, 7:25, 7:32, 7:34, 9:5, 10:21, 10:22, 10:26, 11:26, 14:37; 2 Co 3:18; Gal 1:19; Eph 5:17; 1 Th 1:8, 4:15; 2 Ti 2:24; Heb 12:5; Jas 4:15, 5:7, 5:8, 1 Pe 2:13; 2 Pe 3:15
    • You would not list 1 Co 11:20 or Rev 1:10 because those have a different G/K # beside them.
Greek Example

The back of the NIV Exhaustive Concordance has a chart to convert Strong's numbers to G/K numbers and one to convert G/K numbers to Strong's numbers. 

For Greek words, be sure you are looking at the numbers in italics.

Example: page 1643 shows that G/K 3261 corresponds to Strongs 2962.

Identify the original Hebrew word (Old Testament) example
  1. Look up the English translation of the word in the concordance. 
    • "Lord" on page 683
  2. Find the verse where it is located. The letter/words in bold are the English translation.
    • Ex 4:13 But Moses said, O L, please send someone
  3. Identify the G/K # of the original word.
    • 151 (Note the numbers used with other verses, such as 123 and 1484--those are different Hebrew Words.)
  4. Look up the G/K # in the dictionary in the back of the concordance.
    • 151 is on page 1361, in the Hebrew to English Dictionary and Index
  5. Copy everything from the dictionary: G/K #, Hebrew word, transliteration, definition, and English translations.
    • 151, adonay, the Lord, Sovereign, a title of the one true God, with a focus on his majesty and authority
    • sovereign (291), the Lord (91), Lord (57), the Lord's (3)--the number in parenthesis is the number of occurences of that English translation--adding them together, adonay is used 342 times
Create a list of every occurrence of the word in the Bible (Hebrew example)
  1. Look up each English translation of the word in the front "concordance" section.
    • "Lord's" is on page 686.
    • You would also look up "sovereign," "the Lord," "Lord."
  2. List each verse that has the G/K # beside it.
    • There are 3 verses with G/K # 151: Nu 14:17; 1 Ki 3:15; Mal 1:12.
    • You would not list 2 Sa 11:11 or 1 Ki 1:33 because those have a different G/K # beside them.
Hebrew Example

The back of the NIV Exhaustive Concordance has a chart to convert Strong's numbers to G/K numbers and one to convert G/K numbers to Strong's numbers. 

For Hebrew words, be sure you are looking at the numbers NOT in italics.

Example: page 1627 shows that G/K 151 corresponds to Strongs 136.
